Notes on What's Happening - Mar/Apr 2005

by Dulcie Guinty

Released on Tuesday, March 1st, 2005

Well, folks, it's time to start gearing up for spring and the outdoor music season! Be sure to check out the calendar of events for festivals and concerts you'll want to have in your schedule. Our Friends from The River Rat Camp are hosting the 19th Annual halfway to Winfield Campout the weekend of March 18th-21st. You'll find them at the fairgrounds in Winfield in the west campground. We've gone for the past several years and its always a great time no matter what the weather! The Wichita River Festival will be here the first of May. KAAA Acoustic Arts concert is moving back to the food court area on the steps of Century II. So mark your calendar for Sat. May 7 join us for an afternoon of fun and good music. Also look for us in the Sundowners Parade on May 6.

I went to the Moreland and Arbuckle CD release party. This also served as a fundraiser for their trip to Memphis where they competed in the International blues competition. They won a local contest last September, sponsored by the Wichita Blues Society, who sent them on to this competition. KAAA presented them with $100 to help support their trip and efforts to promote acoustic music. They performed as an acoustic duo this year and placed in the top five acts out of over forty! Way to go, guys! The CD release party was big fun with friend and producer Tom Page, Rik Stevenson and David Graham and several other friends performing throughout the evening. Oh, and the new CD is great!!

There are some new venues around looking for folks to come and play some songs.
The Old Marple Theater 417 E. Douglas 262-7753. These folks are hosting an acoustic Jam on Thurs.7-10 pm. Mark your calendar for March 6. There will be a benefit concert here to help out the old Bartlett Arboretum in Belle Plaine owned by Robin Macy.

Another new venue just opened Feb. 17th- reVive! located at 2262 S. Greenwich Rd. is a new coffeehouse booking (316-618-8483) for Fri. and Sat. evenings. A recent visit there was a nice stop on my way home! I was treated to a warm friendly atmosphere with many items to soothe the senses! Lotions, candles, books, cud's, specialty teas and coffees, sandwiches, smoothies and pastries! Cozy tables and a nice sitting room plus a good size stage provide a nice ambience for music! Check it out!

The Farm and Art Market in Old Town will be gearing up for Sat. mornings soon. They are looking for some folks to provide some music. If you are interested contact Pat Randleas at 316-992-0413 or pat@oldtownfarmersmarket.com. I met the folks from Jetmore (Ron and Diane) who put on the Sawlog and Strings festival in July. Still not sure if they will have a festival this year but holding out hope. Sadly this is the case many of the festivals across the state . The High Plains Jamboree at Doolittle Farms is no more. Still looking for updates on the Colby Pickin' on the Plains festival and the Tumbleweed Festival out Garden City way. If any of you have knowledge of these or any other musical events that your fellow members will be interested in please send that to us so we can share it! Remember folks we're here for you so-o-o send us your notes on what's happening!

Peace
Dulcie
