Bruce Huss -- Patience

Released on Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

I was recently rewarded with a copy of Bruce Huss’s new CD, entitled “Patience”. I’ve heard Bruce several times in the Singer/Songwriter Circle at the ‘Choke, so I knew he was good, but man, I wasn’t prepared for what my ears heard.

Let me begin by saying, “When you listen to this CD, be ready to smile, tap your foot, and start thinking about how much music means to you”.

When I put “Patience” in to the CD player, I listened to it all the way through twice. Usually, with a new CD, I listen to a song, then fast forward to another, all the way through to the end, then I start over and listen to the songs that grab my short attention span the most.

The opening rack, Patience, is a strong starter. Bruce’s use of melodic harmonies throughout the entire CD, are strong, stable and interesting. Patience is one of my favorite songs. I also think track #9, Sitting Ovation, is remarkably well written and performed. The beautiful notes that float gracefully through the air start immediately, and continue to take you on a journey of the mind that is sweet, and almost aching at times. When I hear music that makes me shake my head just a little, man, you know you’ve got something. Absolutely stunning. Sitting Ovation is probably my favorite track on the CD. I didn’t want this song to end.

Thinking back, I don’t really remember a weak track on the entire CD. Bruce’s songs are not simply played as chord progressions, but with a lot of “Bruce Style”. That’s to say, there’s a lot of fluid finger-picking and changes that keep you interested.

One other thing I liked about the new CD, is I noticed that it ended just as strong as it started. You know how sometimes you buy a CD, and the only good songs are the first four or five? Not here, boy. You’ll get your money’s worth when you buy Bruce’s new CD, “Patience”. There’s even some slide work on a couple of songs.

Most of the songs are gorgeous instrumentals, but several have vocals. So, if you’re a fan of great acoustic music, you owe it to yourself to pick up a copy of Bruce’s new CD. I bet you can purchase one or several copies from Bruce’s website, wwwbrucehuss.wichitaguitar.com.
