Notes on What's Happenin' - Mar/Apr 2006

by Dulcie Guinty

Released on Wednesday, March 1st, 2006

Lots of great music and events been going on! Went to Grandma’s Farm in January. Had a lot of fun, heard some good music and met some great people. These folks have a jam the 2nd Sat each month. Bring your beverage, a snack to share, a smile and a song- a good time is waiting for you!

Have you checked out Nancy’s Amazin’ Sandwiches located in Maize? Great sandwiches, drinks, desserts and coming in the future live music. Recently spent a most pleasant evening there listening to the Stitch Miller Band and enjoying a Nancy’s Famous #8.

Been hearing rumors of C.D. Release Parties soon to be announced for Terry Quiett, Nikki Moddelmog, and 5 Man Trio now there’s something to look forward to!

Have you heard? The Wichita City Council has passed a new ordinance allowing musicians to perform on public streets. I know that Wichita Downtown Development played a big role in making that happen! Thank you very much! Of course there will be regulations that must be followed. If interested you can find information about this ordinance at www.wichita.gov. -- check out city council meeting minutes for Feb.14. You’ll find an overview of the ordinance elsewhere in this publication.

Ron Land and friends recently held a benefit at the Artichoke to help out friend and musician Mark Horton who has had some mounting medical bills due to illness and no medical insurance. Bryan Masters & Dennis Hardin, Land & Smith, Michael Carmody & Wayne Gottstine, and Pop & the Boys performed to a packed house and friends dug deep to help out a friend in need. Awesome!!!!

You can have the opportunity to help out another local musician Kirk Rundstrom has been diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Friends are planning a benefit concert for him on April 1st at the Orpheum.

Also—the PAT Fund has been busy helping those in need. There will be some fundraisers throughout April featuring many genres of local and regional musicians, with proceeds going to the PAT (Performers Assistance Trust) Fund.

Opportunities abound for you to open your heart and wallet to local musicians who need help now and those who will need help in the future. Come on—Share the love!!

It’s about time for the halfway to Winfield campout—3rd weekend in March Winfield Fairgrounds.

Be sure to check out the calendar of events there are events you’ll want to have on your calendar.

Some folks at our last board meeting wanted to know how to find out about musical happening elsewhere in the state and surrounding KAAA area. We would be happy to publish events scheduled in your town, county, neighborhood, etc., etc. We welcome your input and you presence at our board meetings which are held the 2nd Monday each month at the Artichoke 7 pm.

Remember we are here for you, so-o-o–o send us your notes on what’s happening!

Peace,
Dulcie
