Notes on What's Happening - Jan/Feb 2006

by Dulcie Guinty

Released on Wednesday, February 1st, 2006

Greetings for the New Year! Wow- just doesn’t seem possible that we are in ‘06 already! But the year ahead is full of promise for many wonderful things! It’s this time of year we all contemplate resolutions and what we can do to make our world better. KAAA has always had a mission to promote acoustic music and music education. As music appreciators we all understand the important roll music plays in the balance of our overall well being. Music brings joy, soothes and feeds the soul, stimulates our thought processes, etc. We will continue in this endeavor and welcome all of you who want to contribute your time, energy, talents, resources and ideas to make this happen. Together we can make a difference!

As you know from notices in our last newsletter there were a couple of great fundraisers held in the last two months. First—there was the fundraiser for the Planeview Community Library in Nov. at the Murdock Theater. This event was a huge success and many congratulations go out to organizer and KAAA member LuAnna Peck—well done! The Waybacks with opening act Pop and the Boys played to a full house and what a wonderful show it was! We hope it generated a lot of $$ for the Library!

In Dec. we teamed up with the Singer/Songwriters Circle to hold the Guitars for Kids fundraiser. Bryan Masters and the Songwriters Circle with the help of Mark Scheltgen (digitalboy.com), contributed their talents to a c.d. recorded live at the Artichoke which was then sold for the unbelievable price of $5! The event featured performances from the songwriters circle, fun, food and prizes. Thanks to all who participated and attended. Special thanks to Wayne Long who donated his time and talents to providing sound for the evening. Special thanks to Brian Bailey and Gary Presson- you know what you did! Enormous thanks to Pat and Juanita for their constant support of music and musicians! Hats off to Bryan Masters and the S/S circle!
Guitars for Kids was able to provide guitars w/gig bags to 12 kids this year! These were distributed through The Salvation Army, Hope Street, Communities In Schools, Middle School After School Program, Friends of the Keeper, Judge Riddel Boys Ranch and Youthville. Wow- talk about making a difference-- now that’s what it‘s all about! Congratulations to all involved!

The New Year holds promise for many more great things—however we have to make them happen! So let’s do it together! Remember this organization and publication are here for you. We welcome your performance schedules, notices of upcoming events, music reviews, etc. but you have to send them to us at:

P.O. Box 1333
Derby, Ks. 67037

Deadline for our next bi-monthly publication is Feb 15th.
So-o-o send us your Notes in What’s Happenin’!

Wishing you many blessings for the year ahead!

Peace
Dulcie
