Notes on What’s Happening - Nov/Dec 2003
by Dulcie Guinty
Released on Monday, December 1st, 2003Am I the only one that feels like everything goes by so fast and so much has happened already that it feels like it’s time to go back to Winfield again? Me, the person who was lucky enough to get to spend 10 days, starting with land rush, my personal first, and staying until Sunday. One would think that with all that time, a person should be able to do everything they want to but alas I still found I missed some things. What I will always miss the most though is the friends departed from us who will only be there in spirit from now on. But there we will always feel that spirit which is the one of the many facets of the karma that draws us back there each year – may it never fade away!
The Artichoke Fish Fry and KAAA Open Mic/Auction was a success and much fun too. Thanks Pat and Jaunita for letting us share your evening and by the way – you folks sure do know how to throw a party! Thanks to all of you who came out to show your support too. We are here for you!
There is lots of new local music coming out these days. The Bennet Brothers recently held the release party for their new CD, “Live at the Artichoke” live at the Artichoke.
The new KAAA compilation CD is nearing completion. Watch the next issue for a release date.
I’ve heard of a new venue in Newton called Moka’s from several different sources. Be sure to check the calendar of events for their schedule and contact information.
I was asked to judge at the Wichita Blues Society Blues Challenge recently and am happy to tell you that KAAA member Aaron Moreland is a member of the group The Kingsnakes, that won the competition and will be representing WBS at the national competition in Memphis this coming January. We certainly wish them good luck!
I have one parting thought: The holiday season will soon be upon us and music is a big part of what makes the holidays so special. Please try to go out and share the gift of music somewhere with folks that can’t go out to find it themselves. Who knows? You might find you’ve started a new tradition!
Do check out the calendar of events and hope to see you out enjoying the music somewhere!
Well remember friends we are here for you so send us your notes on what’s happening!

Peace Dulcie
