About Us: History

Thank you for your interest in the Kansas Acoustic Arts Association. 2005 marks our 10th year of activity. KAAA began in the late 1970’s and has been resurrected several times. In 1994, a group of like-minded individuals decided that, though there were music-oriented organizations in our area, they were each geared toward a specific genre of music, and there didn’t seem to be interest on their parts to include any other forms of music. So, the idea to form a new organization was born. During the course of early research, we learned that KAAA had once existed as a not-for-profit and could be reinstated. We got busy, got organized, formed a board of directors, and in March 1995, we were officially recognized as a not-for-profit organization.

Today we have over 200 members. Our goals are still the same: to promote acoustic music, musicians and venues, to offer educational opportunities, and to serve the needs and interests of our members. We publish a bi-monthly newsletter featuring articles and reviews and a calendar of events. Our members are encouraged to participate with educational opportunities by assisting with “Ye Old Music Shop,” a hands-on workshop available for events and geared toward kids from 5 to 95.

We have participated in many community events such as the Wichita River Festival and Wichita Area Girl Scout activities, to name a few.

Whether you are a musician or a music lover, we have something of interest for you. Come join us and grow with us!
